Áklæði
Áklæði is an Icelandic term referring to a type of blanket or coverlet. Historically, áklæði were often made from wool, a common and readily available material in Iceland, and were used for warmth and comfort. They served a practical purpose in the often cold climate of Iceland, used on beds, as throws on seating, or even as portable coverings. The design and thickness of an áklæði could vary depending on its intended use and the resources available to the maker. While the term is still in use today, the materials and production methods may have evolved from traditional wool to include other fabrics. The concept of an áklæði is similar to a bedspread or a decorative throw in other cultures, emphasizing its role as both functional and potentially decorative.
