Zirkoniat is a nonstandard or informal term that does not correspond to an officially recognized mineral or chemical name in major nomenclature systems. In various contexts, the word may be used loosely to refer to zirconium-containing species, particularly zirconates, or to zirconium-bearing minerals in non-English literature. Because zirkoniat lacks a fixed definition, its meaning is highly context dependent.

In geology and mineralogy, the closest well‑defined material is zircon, a nesosilicate with the formula ZrSiO4. Zircon is valued for its hardness, high refractive index, and durability. Zirconium oxide, or zirconia (ZrO2), is another important compound, occurring as the mineral baddeleyite in nature and widely used in ceramics and advanced materials when synthesized.
