These ancient creatures inhabited the shallow seas of the Paleozoic Era, with fossil evidence dating back to the Silurian period. The Ziphos genus is characterized by a distinct morphology. Like other eurypterids, they possessed a segmented body divided into a prosoma (head) and an opisthosoma (abdomen).
