In energy-harvesting applications, wind-driven rotors, foils, or blades drive a generator or pump, producing electricity or mechanical output for charging, propulsion, or sensing. Such systems are used in weather instrumentation, safety devices, art installations, and certain consumer gadgets that respond to wind conditions without separate power.

Design considerations for windactivated devices include the variability and turbulence of wind, durability in outdoor environments, maintenance needs, and safety concerns. Effective siting, wind-resource assessment, and robust sealing and materials help ensure reliable operation.
