výce

Výce is not a standard word in Czech or Slovak. In contemporary usage, it is usually a misspelling of více, the Czech adverb meaning "more" or "additional." The diacritic on i is essential; without it, the form is generally regarded as incorrect in formal writing.

Standard usage: více is used to express a greater quantity or degree, and in comparisons (více než). Examples: více času, více peněz; více než deset lidí.

Etymology: The word více comes from Proto-Slavic vyšьe or viacь, and is cognate with Polish więcej and Russian больше (bol'she), reflecting the Slavic root for "more."

Orthography and reception: In non-diacritic text, misreadings can produce výce; when editing or typesetting, this should be corrected to více. Dictionaries do not list výce as a separate word.
