võrdkülgne

võrdkülgne is an Estonian adjective that translates to "equilateral" in English. It is primarily used in geometry to describe shapes where all sides are of equal length.

The most common application of võrdkülgne is in relation to a triangle. A võrdkülgne kolmnurk is an equilateral triangle, a triangle with three sides of equal length and three equal interior angles, each measuring 60 degrees. This property makes equilateral triangles highly symmetrical.

The term can also be applied to other geometric figures. For example, a võrdkülgne nelinurk, or equilateral quadrilateral, is a rhombus. While all sides are equal in a rhombus, its angles are not necessarily equal, unlike an equilateral triangle. A square is a special case of a rhombus that is also equiangular, meaning all its angles are equal (90 degrees). Therefore, a square is both võrdkülgne and nurgatäpne (equiangular).

Beyond geometry, the concept of "võrdkülgne" can sometimes be extended metaphorically to describe situations or relationships where fairness and equality are emphasized, though its primary and most precise meaning remains in the realm of geometric measurements.
