There are several types of vízszintmér, each employing different measurement principles. Mechanical water level meters typically involve a weighted probe attached to a graduated tape or cable. Electrical water level meters use conductivity to detect the water surface. As the probe enters the water, the electrical circuit is completed, signaling the depth. Ultrasonic water level meters employ sound waves. A transducer emits a pulse of sound that travels to the water surface and reflects back. The time it takes for the echo to return is used to calculate the distance to the water surface.
