Vínciklusok is a term used in viticulture to describe the annual cycle of a grapevine. This cycle begins in the spring with budbreak, where the dormant buds on the vine begin to swell and open, revealing new shoots and leaves. As the weather warms, these shoots elongate and develop more foliage, preparing for flowering.

Flowering typically occurs in late spring or early summer, depending on the climate and grape varietal. Small, delicate flowers emerge on the vine, and if pollination is successful, these flowers will develop into berries. The period following flowering is known as fruit set, where the fertilized flowers transform into tiny, green grapes.

As the grapes mature, they undergo veraison, a crucial stage where they begin to change color and soften. Sugars accumulate, and acids decrease, leading to the characteristic flavor and aroma development of the grape. This ripening process continues through the summer months.

Harvest, or収穫 (shūkaku), takes place when the grapes have reached optimal ripeness. This timing is critical for the quality of the resulting wine. After harvest, the vine enters dormancy as temperatures drop in the autumn and winter. The leaves may change color and fall, and the vine conserves energy in its roots and woody parts, preparing for the next year's cycle. This continuous cycle of growth, reproduction, and dormancy is essential for the vine's survival and for the production of grapes.
