Værdiområder, or value areas, are a concept often encountered in technical analysis and trading. They represent specific price ranges where a significant amount of trading volume has occurred over a defined period. The idea is that these areas are where buyers and sellers have previously shown strong interest, suggesting potential support or resistance levels in the future.

Typically, a value area is identified by calculating the volume at each price level within a given timeframe, such as a day, week, or month. The price range containing the majority of this volume, usually considered to be around 70%, is then designated as the value area. Within this area, the point of highest volume is known as the point of control (POC).

Traders often use value areas to make trading decisions. If a price is trading within its value area, it can be seen as a period of equilibrium. When the price moves outside of the value area, it can signal a potential shift in market sentiment or the beginning of a new trend. Conversely, if the price breaks out of a value area, it might be considered a significant event, with the expectation that the price will continue to move in the direction of the breakout.

The concept of value areas is closely linked to the principles of volume profile analysis, which emphasizes the importance of volume in understanding market behavior. Traders may observe how price interacts with the edges of the value area and the POC to identify potential entry and exit points for their trades. The longer the time period used to define the value area, the more significance is often attributed to it.
