Väljasügavuse is an Estonian term that translates to "depth of field" in English, a concept primarily used in photography and cinematography. It refers to the range of distances within a scene that appear acceptably sharp in a photograph. Objects that are closer to the viewer than this range, or farther away than this range, will appear increasingly out of focus.

The depth of field is influenced by several factors. The aperture of the lens is a key determinant; a smaller aperture (higher f-number) results in a larger depth of field, meaning more of the scene will be in focus. Conversely, a wider aperture (lower f-number) produces a shallower depth of field, isolating the subject with a blurred background.

Another significant factor is the focal length of the lens. Longer focal lengths tend to produce shallower depth of field, while wider focal lengths create a greater depth of field. The distance between the camera and the subject also plays a role; as the subject moves closer to the camera, the depth of field decreases.
