Voevode is a historical military rank and title found in various Slavic countries. The term originates from Old East Slavic "voevoda" (воевода), meaning "leader of soldiers" or "war leader." It was commonly used in medieval and early modern East Slavic states, including Kievan Rus', the Grand Duchy of Moscow, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The responsibilities of a voevode varied over time and location but generally involved leading military forces, administering territories, and maintaining order. They often served as provincial governors, commanding troops stationed in specific regions and collecting taxes. In some instances, voevodes were appointed directly by the ruler and held significant authority within their assigned domains.
