Vlijten is a hamlet situated in the Dutch province of Gelderland, within the administrative boundary of the municipality of Winterswijk. The settlement lies to the west of the village of Emmerich, roughly 12 kilometres east of Winterswijk’s centre and about 80 kilometres north of Arnhem. Geographically, Vlijten lies in a low‑lying area of the Veluwe, at an elevation of roughly 20 metres above sea level, and is drained by a small network of ditches that feed into the nearby IJssel river basin.
