Vizsgaidőszak is a designated interval within an academic term during which students take formal examinations and assessments, and it determines course grades for the term.

Across Hungarian higher education institutions, the structure can vary, but most universities organize two main exam periods per academic year: a spring exam period following the spring semester and an autumn exam period after the autumn semester. There are also shorter or supplementary periods, such as make-up or resit sessions, to allow students who did not pass in the main window to attempt the exams again.

During vizsgaidőszak, examinations may include written tests, oral exams, practical assessments, or coursework that is graded and contributes to the final mark. Students must often register for specific exams; exam rooms, supervisors, and time slots are scheduled by faculties. Results are released after the examination period, and in many programs students may have the right to review or appeal a grade; retake policies vary by institution.

Institutions use vizsgaidőszak to assess achievement and progress toward degree requirements. The period can be demanding, affecting student life, housing, and part-time work. Accessibility, illness, and exceptional circumstances are typically addressed by policy; some exams may be postponed or moved to alternative dates with documentation.
