At the center of the flower is the gynoecium, or pistil, the female reproductive organ. The gynoecium can be composed of one or more carpels, which are often fused together. A carpel typically consists of a stigma, a style, and an ovary. The stigma is the receptive tip where pollen lands, the style is a stalk connecting the stigma to the ovary, and the ovary contains ovules, which develop into seeds after fertilization. The arrangement and form of these floral parts can vary greatly among different plant species, reflecting their evolutionary history and ecological interactions.
