Virallisuus, in English often translated as officiality or official status, is the state or quality of being official, or the adherence to formal rules, procedures, and authorities. The term encapsulates how institutions confer legitimacy through approved channels, documentation, and recognized authorities. Etymologically, it derives from the Finnish virallinen, meaning official, with the noun-forming suffix -isuus denoting a state or quality.

In practice, virallisuus is expressed through bureaucratic processes, licensing and certification, state communications, and formal decision-making. It is closely tied to the authority of public institutions, the use of official channels, and the obligation to follow established procedures. The concept is often contrasted with epävirallisuus (informality), which denotes activities or communications outside formal structures.
