Viilata is a small coastal municipality in the fictional region of Liria. The town sits on Viilata Bay at the mouth of the Viil River, with pine forests inland and open farmland to the south. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and regular rainfall.

Viilata traces its origins to late medieval fishing camps and developed into a market town in the early modern period. A shipbuilding and milling trade persisted into the 19th century, after which the economy diversified. The municipality is governed by a mayor and a twelve-member council.

Today the economy centers on seafood processing, light manufacturing, and agritourism. The population is around 9,500, with families of long-standing residents and a growing number of newcomers. Lirian is the primary language, with regional dialects spoken in daily life.

Key landmarks include a 19th-century lighthouse, the stone quay, and the Weaver’s House, reflecting a weaving tradition. The annual Viilata Festival celebrates maritime heritage with markets, music, and crafts.
