Viharok is the Hungarian plural of vihar, meaning storms. In meteorology, storms are weather events characterized by strong winds and precipitation, and they may include thunder, lightning, hail, and related phenomena. The term covers several distinct types of weather systems that can affect many regions of the world, not only Hungary.

Common forms include thunderstorms, which arise from convective lifting of warm, moist air and often produce lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds; tropical cyclones (hurricanes and typhoons) that develop over warm oceans with organized circulation and may bring heavy rain and storm surges; extratropical cyclones that form along synoptic fronts and can bring widespread wind and rain; tornadoes, which are small-area, intense wind events associated with severe thunderstorms; and hailstorms, produced by strong updrafts that suspend hailstones in cumulonimbus clouds.

Formation and prediction: Storm development depends on atmospheric instability, moisture, lift, and, in some cases, energy from oceans. Forecasting relies on weather radar, satellites, in-situ measurements, and numerical weather prediction models. Authorities issue watches when severe storms are possible and warnings when their occurrence is imminent or ongoing.

Impact and safety: Storms can cause property damage, power outages, floods, road closures, and risk to life. Preparedness measures include seeking shelter indoors during storms, staying away from windows, securing loose objects, and avoiding flooded areas. In recent decades, climate change has been associated with changes in storm intensity and, in some regions, frequency.
