Videorecordings are recordings of moving images captured by a video recording device and stored as digital files or analog media. Metadata and timecode accompany many recordings to aid organization, editing, and synchronization. Preservation challenges include format obsolescence, media degradation, and codec licensing issues; best practices emphasize regular migration, bit-level backups, and documentation.

Applications vary widely: broadcast news and film production, user-generated content on the internet, educational videos, medical imaging, and surveillance. Legal and ethical considerations include copyright, consent, privacy, and the rights of subjects.

In media archives, videorecordings are managed to maintain accessibility, integrity, and authenticity, often with checksums, version control, and standardized metadata schemas to support retrieval and reuse.
