Vesilõikus, also known as water cutting or hydrocutting, is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses a high-pressure jet of water, often mixed with an abrasive material, to cut through a wide range of materials. The water is pressurized to extremely high levels, typically between 30,000 and 60,000 psi (pounds per square inch), and forced through a tiny nozzle, creating a thin, powerful stream.

When an abrasive material, such as garnet, is introduced into the water stream, the process becomes even more effective at cutting harder materials. The abrasive particles, propelled by the high-pressure water, erode the material being cut. This method is considered a "cold cutting" process because it generates very little heat, preventing thermal distortion or damage to the material's properties.

Vesilõikus is highly versatile and can be used to cut materials such as metal, stone, glass, plastic, rubber, and composites. Its precision allows for intricate shapes and tight tolerances. The process is often controlled by computer numerical control (CNC) machines, enabling automated and repeatable cutting operations.
