Verkkopäätelaitteet, or network termination equipment (NTE), are devices that mark the demarcation point between a telecommunications network provider's infrastructure and a customer's private network or individual device. Essentially, they are the gateway through which services like internet, telephone, or television are delivered to the end-user.

Common examples of verkkopäätelaitteet include modems, routers, and optical network terminals (ONTs). A modem, for instance, translates digital signals from a computer into analog signals that can be transmitted over telephone lines and vice-versa. Routers, on the other hand, direct network traffic between different networks, allowing multiple devices to share a single internet connection. ONTs are used in fiber optic networks to convert optical signals into electrical signals.

The primary function of a verkkopäätelaite is to provide a standardized interface, ensuring compatibility between the service provider's network and the customer's equipment. They often perform vital tasks such as authentication, signal conversion, and basic network management.
