Verihyytymille refers to blood clots, which are masses of blood that have changed from a liquid to a solid state. This process, known as coagulation or clotting, is a vital mechanism for stopping bleeding when a blood vessel is injured. Platelets and proteins in the plasma collect at the site of injury and form a clot, preventing further blood loss.

However, blood clots can also form inappropriately within blood vessels when there is no injury. These pathological clots can obstruct blood flow and lead to serious health problems. Various factors can increase the risk of developing abnormal blood clots, including prolonged immobility, certain medical conditions like cancer, genetic predispositions, surgery, and the use of some medications. Medical conditions that affect blood clotting, such as hemophilia (a bleeding disorder) or thrombophilia (a tendency to clot), are also relevant to the discussion of blood clots. Treatment often involves anticoagulant medications, which help prevent clots from forming or growing larger.
