Veeteenused (Estonian for water transport services) refer to services that support waterborne transportation of people and goods on seas, rivers, and other waterways, as well as the related infrastructure and activities that accompany shipping and inland navigation. The term covers both transport operations and the port and harbour services that enable those operations.

Veeteenused encompass passenger transport by ferries and ships, freight shipping by container, bulk, or tanker vessels, and chartering arrangements. Inland waterway transport on rivers and canals is also included. Supporting activities include port and terminal operations, cargo handling, storage, pilotage, towage, mooring, bunkering, and other shore-side services that keep ships moving. Additional services such as salvage, dredging, and logistics planning may be classified as veeteenused when they directly support water transport.

Industry players include shipping lines and ferry operators, port authorities and terminal operators, maritime service providers, ship agents, insurers, and classification societies. Public agencies regulate safety, environmental compliance, and navigation rules, while industry associations set technical standards and facilitate coordination among stakeholders.

Regulation and safety are governed by international conventions such as SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW, which establish core safety, security, and training requirements. National laws cover vessel registration, crew licensing, port state control, and environmental protection standards. The sector is increasingly influenced by digitalization, environmental policies, and the move toward cleaner fuels and automated operations.

Veeteenused are central to international trade, tourism, and energy logistics. The field faces challenges from regulatory demands and supply chain dynamics, but also opportunities through modernization, decarbonization, and better data-driven port and ship operations.
