Vatväriaineet, often translated as vat dyes, are a class of insoluble dyes that require a chemical reduction process to become soluble and thus able to be applied to fibers. Once applied, they are re-oxidized, returning to their insoluble state and becoming permanently fixed within the fabric. This process makes vat dyes exceptionally colorfast, resistant to washing, light, and rubbing.
