Vasöntés is a Hungarian term that translates to iron casting or founding. It refers to the metallurgical process of producing objects by melting and pouring molten cast iron into a mold, which then solidifies into the desired shape. This ancient technique has been used for centuries to create a wide range of products, from decorative architectural elements and cookware to industrial components and machinery parts.

The primary material used in vasöntés is cast iron, an alloy of iron, carbon, and silicon. The carbon content typically ranges from 2% to 4%, distinguishing it from steel.
