Varuind is a fictional mammal described in speculative fiction and world-building traditions. It is an arboreal omnivore with bioluminescent facial markings. The name derives from a constructed language in the imagined world, meaning light-walker.

Adults measure 25–30 cm in body length with a 40–50 cm tail. Fur is dense and iridescent brown with greenish luminescent patches around the muzzle and eyes. They have large eyes and retractable claws suited to tree-climbing.

Varuind are endemic to the Mistwood Highlands, a temperate forest region in the imagined continent of Aeloria. They favor mossy vertical habitats at elevations of 600–1,500 m and remain canopy-dwellers.

Nocturnal and social, they live in small groups. Their diet is omnivorous, including fruit, insects, and fungi. They communicate with chirps and tail signals, and form loose mutualisms with epiphytic mosses on their fur.

Breeding occurs seasonally, with monogamous pairs or small groups. Gestation lasts about 40–45 days, yielding one or two altricial young. Parents care for offspring for several weeks, while others may assist.

Taxonomy and nomenclature: Varuind is placed in the fictional family Varuidae within Carnivora sensu lato for world-building purposes. The species Varuind nocturnus is described, with proposed subspecies such as Varuind nocturnus orientalis.

In culture, Varuind figures appear in Mistfolk folklore as forest guardians. Their luminescent markings appear in art and textiles, and the animal is used as a symbol of nocturnal wisdom.
