vanhempainpäiväraha

Vanhempainpäiväraha is a Finnish social security benefit provided to parents during the period following childbirth or adoption. It is administered by Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. The purpose of vanhempainpäiväraha is to allow parents to spend time with their newborn or newly adopted child and to compensate for the loss of income during this period.

The benefit is paid to both mothers and fathers, and it can be shared between them. The total duration of parental leave is typically 164 weekdays. The amount of vanhempainpäiväraha is based on the parent's income during the year preceding the start of the parental leave. There is a minimum daily allowance and a maximum daily allowance.

To be eligible for vanhempainpäiväraha, the parent must have been insured in Finland for at least 180 days immediately prior to the start of the parental leave. The child must also be residing in Finland. The parental leave can commence when the mother's raskausraha, or pregnancy allowance, ends.

Parents can choose to take their parental leave flexibly. They can take the full duration at once, or divide it into shorter periods. Partial parental leave is also an option, allowing parents to work part-time while receiving a portion of the parental allowance.
