valgusstressi
Valgusstressi refers to the forces that cause the knee to bend outwards, away from the midline of the body. This condition is often referred to as knock-knees. It can be a congenital issue, meaning a person is born with it, or it can develop over time due to various factors. Causes can include genetics, certain medical conditions like rickets or Blount's disease, trauma to the knee or growth plate, or ligamentous laxity. In children, mild valgus is common and usually resolves as they grow. However, persistent or severe valgus can lead to pain, instability, and an increased risk of osteoarthritis in the knee joint. The alignment of the lower leg, including the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone), plays a significant role in the degree of valgus. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and may include X-rays to assess the alignment and rule out underlying causes. Treatment options vary depending on the severity and cause, ranging from observation and physical therapy to bracing or surgery in more severe cases.
