vSx
VSX is an acronym that can denote several different things depending on context. In computing, it most notably refers to the Vector-Scalar eXtension (VSX) of the IBM POWER architecture. VSX extends the processor’s capability with vector operations alongside scalar instructions, enabling higher performance in scientific computing, media processing, and other data-intensive tasks. It provides 128-bit vector registers and related instructions, and is designed to integrate with existing POWER instruction sets and compilers. VSX has been used by IBM POWER processors since around the POWER6/POWER7 era and remains a feature in newer generations, often coupled with software that can leverage SIMD.
In consumer electronics, VSX has been used as a model prefix by Sony for some of its
