Võõrseemned is an Estonian indie rock band that emerged in the early 2000s. The group was formed in Tallinn by front‑man Jaakko Höök together with guitarist Martin Kask, bassist René Põld and drummer Kristjan Tamm. They adopted the name, which translates as “Foreign Seeds,” to reflect their ambition to blend local musical traditions with international influences.

The band’s sound is characterized by melodic guitar lines, layered vocal harmonies and a rhythmic foundation that draws on both punk energy and folk sensibilities. Critics have noted the influence of early 1990s alternative rock, as well as a subtle nod to traditional Estonian folk melodies. Lyrically, Võõrseemned explores themes of identity, nature, and contemporary life in Estonia.

They released their debut full‑length album, *Turumaastik*, in 2005, which received positive reviews for its concise songwriting and atmospheric production. Their follow‑up, *Vihmas*, arrived in 2008 and expanded the band’s sonic palette with percussion loops and electronic textures. Subsequent releases include the EP *Iga Etapp* (2010) and the live recording *Tallinnnäod* (2012). Although the ensemble disbanded in 2013, they left a legacy of songs that continue to appear in Estonian radio playlists.

Võõrseemned performed at major festivals such as RUMS and the Tallinn Music Week and toured throughout the Baltic region. Their live shows were noted for their engaging stage presence and tight musicianship. Despite a relatively short career, the band contributed to the development of Estonia’s indie scene and inspired a new generation of musicians looking to merge modern rock with local cultural motifs.
