For instance, if a study shows that income (independent variable) is related to health outcomes (dependent variable), a mediating factor might be access to healthcare. Identifying mediators typically involves statistical analysis, such as regression analysis, to determine if the proposed mediating variable statistically accounts for the observed association between the independent and dependent variables. The presence of a mediator suggests that interventions aimed at changing the mediator could be effective in influencing the dependent variable.
