The United States Naval Institute (USNI) is a private, non-profit professional association for individuals with an interest in naval and maritime affairs. Based in Annapolis, Maryland, it aims to advance knowledge of sea power and the professional study of naval affairs.

Founded in 1873 in Annapolis by Rear Admiral Stephen B. Luce and a group of naval officers and civilians, USNI sought to improve professional knowledge of sea power and to encourage informed discussion of naval issues.
