Uproporsjonal is a term used in some mathematical and scientific discussions to describe a relationship between two quantities that does not scale in a constant proportion. In formal terms, a relationship is proportional if there exists a constant k such that y = kx for all x in the domain. Uproporsjonal indicates the absence of such a constant, encompassing a wide range of non-proportional behaviors, including nonlinear, piecewise, and offset relationships.

Because y = kx with a single k is the hallmark of proportionality, any relation that deviates from this form is described as uproporsjonal. This includes linear relationships that do not pass through the origin, such as y = mx + b with b ≠ 0, as well as nonlinear forms like y = x^2, y = log(x), or y = e^x. In these cases, no single constant k satisfies y = kx for all x in the domain.

Uproporsjonal is often used informally to signal nonlinearity or non-constant sensitivity in contexts such as physics, economics, or engineering, where changes in the input do not produce a fixed multiple increase in the output. It is distinct from inverse proportionality, where y ∝ 1/x, which is a different kind of non-proportional relationship.
