Pharmacologically, exposure to antagonists or inhibitors can induce receptor upregulation, which can affect drug sensitivity and treatment outcomes.

Measurement and evidence rely on comparing to baseline levels. Techniques include RT-qPCR and RNA sequencing for mRNA, and Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, or flow cytometry for protein levels. Functional assays can assess pathway activity. Interpreting upregulation requires considering cell type, timing, and potential confounding factors such as changes in cell composition.
