Uppåtlift is a Swedish term formed from uppåt (upward) and lift, used to describe any force that acts upward on a body. In physics and engineering, lift is the force perpendicular to the relative flow, commonly produced when fluid moves around a surface. The word uppåtlift appears in Swedish-language texts to denote upward forces across several domains: aerodynamic lift from wings or blades, buoyant lift due to displaced fluid, and mechanical lift generated by actuators such as hydraulic or pneumatic pistons that raise a load.

In aviation, uppåtlift refers to the traditional lift on a wing; in marine contexts it describes buoyancy that supports a vessel; in industry it covers the operation of lifting devices like jacks, cranes, or elevating platforms. The size of uppåtlift depends on factors such as fluid density, velocity, surface area, and the flow regime. It is distinct from thrust, which provides forward propulsion, and from weight, the downward gravitational force.
