Unracked is an adjective derived from the verb rack. It denotes a state in which items are not mounted on a rack, shelf, or similar supporting structure, or a state in which a process step has not yet been completed by moving material off a rack. The meaning varies across fields, but it generally conveys removal from a rack or absence from a rack-based storage arrangement.

In information technology and data-center practice, unracked equipment refers to servers, switches, or other hardware that has been removed from its mounting rack. Unracked components are typically handled during installation, maintenance, or relocation and require standard safety and electrostatic discharge precautions.

In winemaking and brewing, racking is the transfer of liquid off sediment into a new container. "Unracked" wine or beer typically describes liquid that has not yet undergone this transfer, or is still residing in its primary vessel. The term can imply that the beverage is in an earlier stage and may be cloudier or more prone to sediment, and that handling should minimize exposure to air.

In warehousing or retail contexts, unracked can describe goods not yet placed on display racks or shelving, such as pallets awaiting rack storage or shipment to distribution racks. Usage in these contexts is less common than the generic "not on a rack" phrasing but appears in industry discussions.
