Uniformized is the past participle of uniformize, meaning made uniform or standardized. In mathematics, it is used to describe two related ideas: endowing a set with a uniform structure that induces a given topology, or expressing a geometric object as a uniformization of a simpler universal model.

In topology, a topological space is uniformizable if there exists a uniform structure on the set whose associated topology agrees with the original one. When such a structure exists, the space can be said to have been uniformized. All metric spaces are uniformizable, and, more generally, many completely regular Hausdorff (Tychonoff) spaces admit a compatible uniform structure.

In complex analysis and the theory of Riemann surfaces, the uniformization theorem gives a canonical way to realize surfaces by universal covers. A simply connected Riemann surface is uniformized as the Riemann sphere, the complex plane, or the unit disk. Any Riemann surface can be described as the quotient of one of these by a properly discontinuous group of automorphisms, so the surface is uniformized by its universal covering space. Classic examples include the torus, which is uniformized by the complex plane modulo a lattice, and hyperbolic surfaces, uniformized by the unit disk or upper half-plane via a Fuchsian group.

The term is primarily used within topology and complex analysis and may also appear in discussions of uniform structures in other areas of mathematics.
