Ubezpieczajacy is a legal term used in Polish insurance practice to designate the party who takes out an insurance contract with an insurer and pays the premiums. The ubezpieczajacy is the contracting party to the policy and can be the same person as the insured or a different person or entity. In many cases the policyholder and the insured are identical, but there are situations where they differ—for example when a parent buys a life insurance policy for a child or an employer provides group insurance for employees.

The ubezpieczajacy has several key responsibilities: supplying truthful information about the risk to be insured, paying premiums according to the terms of the contract, and notifying the insurer of changes that could affect the risk. The ubezpieczajacy generally has the right to designate or change the insured object or person, and to designate beneficiaries where the policy allows it. The precise rights and obligations depend on the policy and applicable law.

In relation to other roles in an insurance contract, the ubezpieczajacy is separate from the insured (the person whose life or property is covered) and from the ubezpieczyciel (the insurer, the company providing the coverage). The beneficiary is a separate role as defined by the policy. Understanding the distinction between these terms is important for interpreting rights, responsibilities, and claim procedures in Polish insurance contracts.
