túlnyomásos

Túlnyomásos is a Hungarian adjective used to describe environments, equipment, or conditions in which the pressure inside exceeds the surrounding atmospheric pressure. The root form is túlnyomás, meaning overpressure or pressure above ambient, and the suffix -os marks a characteristic or property. The term is common in technical, industrial, medical, and everyday contexts.

In engineering and industry, túlnyomásos refers to sealed systems designed to withstand and operate at higher internal pressures than ambient. Examples include pressure vessels, pipelines, aircraft and submarine cabins, and other enclosures where safety margins, valves, and relief devices are implemented to manage the pressure difference. In diving, aviation, and medicine, the word often appears in relation to hyperbaric or pressurized environments, such as hiperbárikus kamrák (hyperbaric chambers) used for therapy or training, and other situations where people or processes are exposed to elevated ambient pressure.

Measurement and safety are central: pressure is typically expressed in pascals, bars, or atmospheres, with overpressure defined as the difference between internal and ambient pressure. Systems described as túlnyomásos require appropriate design, monitoring, and safety features to prevent overpressure hazards, including relief valves, robust vessel construction, and adherence to relevant standards.
