Térségeket is a Hungarian term that translates to "regions" or "areas" in English. It generally refers to distinct geographical or administrative subdivisions of a country or a larger territory. In Hungary, the term is often used to denote specific administrative units created for regional development and planning purposes. These administrative regions, also known as "statisztikai nagytérségek" (statistical macro-regions), were established in the early 2000s to align with the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) of the European Union. These regions are primarily for statistical and planning purposes and do not possess extensive self-governance powers.
