Tárcsafék is the Hungarian word for disc brake. A disc brake is a type of brake that uses calipers to squeeze a rotor, which is a flat metal disc attached to the wheel's hub. This friction slows down the rotation of the wheel and thus the vehicle. Disc brakes are a common type of braking system found in many modern vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.

The primary components of a disc brake system are the brake disc (rotor), the brake caliper, and the brake pads. The brake disc rotates with the wheel. The brake caliper is a clamp-like device that houses the brake pads. When the driver applies the brakes, hydraulic fluid is pushed from the master cylinder to the caliper, forcing pistons within the caliper to press the brake pads against the rotating disc. Disc brakes offer several advantages over older braking systems like drum brakes.
