Työoikeussuhde refers to the legal relationship between an employer and an employee in Finnish labor law. This relationship is characterized by a contract of employment, which outlines the terms and conditions of work. Key elements defining this relationship include the employee's obligation to perform work, typically under the employer's direction and supervision, and the employer's obligation to provide work, pay remuneration, and ensure a safe working environment.

The establishment of a työoikeussuhde can be explicit, through a written or oral employment contract, or implied by the conduct of the parties. Finnish labor law provides a framework of rights and obligations for both parties, aiming to balance their interests and ensure fair working conditions. This framework is largely governed by the Employment Contracts Act (Työsopimuslaki) and collective agreements.

Important aspects of the työoikeussuhde include working hours, holidays, sick leave, and termination procedures. Employees are protected by legislation against unfair dismissal and discrimination. Employers have the right to manage and direct work, but this power is limited by legal requirements and the terms of the employment contract. The työoikeussuhde ceases to exist upon termination of the employment contract, which can occur through mutual agreement, resignation, dismissal, or expiry of a fixed-term contract.
