Työntövoimakevytus is a Finnish term that translates roughly to "thrust-to-weight ratio" in English. It is a fundamental concept in aerospace engineering and physics, particularly relevant to the performance of aircraft and rockets. The ratio quantifies how much force an engine can produce relative to the mass of the vehicle it is propelling.

A higher thrust-to-weight ratio indicates that an engine can generate more force compared to the vehicle's weight. This is advantageous for several reasons. For aircraft, a high thrust-to-weight ratio allows for rapid acceleration, steep climb rates, and superior maneuverability. It is crucial for high-performance aircraft such as fighter jets, which need to react quickly and execute complex aerial maneuvers. For rockets, a thrust-to-weight ratio greater than one is essential for liftoff.
