In Finland, the most prominent central organizations are SAK (Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions) representing blue-collar workers, STTK (The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff) representing salaried employees, and Akava (The Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals) also representing highly educated employees. On the employer side, the main central organization is EK (Confederation of Finnish Industries).

These organizations engage in nationwide "framework agreements" or "line negotiations" that set the general direction and wage increases for various sectors.
