Tympanometrinë, also known as tympanometry, is a diagnostic test used to assess the condition of the middle ear and the mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the ossicles (small bones) of the middle ear. This test is commonly performed by audiologists and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialists to evaluate middle ear function and diagnose various ear-related conditions.

The procedure involves inserting a small probe into the ear canal, which generates various pressures and sounds. The device measures the response of the eardrum to these changes in pressure, creating a graph known as a tympanogram. This graph provides information about the air pressure in the middle ear, the volume of the ear canal, and the compliance or mobility of the eardrum.

Tympanometry is particularly useful in diagnosing conditions such as otitis media (middle ear infection), Eustachian tube dysfunction, and fluid in the middle ear. It can also help assess the patency of the Eustachian tube, which connects the middle ear to the back of the throat and helps to equalize pressure in the middle ear.
