Turvarühmades, often translated as "security groups," are a fundamental concept in modern IT infrastructure, particularly within cloud computing environments. They function as virtual firewalls that control inbound and outbound traffic for specific resources. Essentially, a turvarühm defines a set of rules that dictate which network traffic is permitted to reach or leave a server, virtual machine, or other network-attached asset.

These rules are typically based on protocol (e.g., TCP, UDP, ICMP), port number (e.g., 80 for HTTP, 443 for HTTPS, 22 for SSH), and source or destination IP address or range. By assigning a turvarühm to a resource, administrators can granularly manage network access, enhancing security by only allowing necessary communication. For instance, a web server might only have inbound access allowed on ports 80 and 443, while an administrative server might restrict inbound access to a specific IP address on port 22.
