Turbojetmoottorit are a type of gas turbine engine that produces thrust by expelling a high-speed jet of exhaust gases. They are characterized by a core engine that compresses incoming air, mixes it with fuel, and ignites the mixture. The resulting hot gases expand rapidly, passing through a turbine that drives the compressor, and then are accelerated out of a nozzle at high velocity, generating thrust.

The basic components of a turbojet engine include an inlet, a compressor, a combustion chamber, a turbine, and a nozzle. Air enters the inlet and is compressed by the compressor, increasing its pressure and temperature. Fuel is injected into the combustion chamber and mixed with the compressed air, where it is ignited. The combustion process creates a large volume of hot, high-pressure gases that expand through the turbine. The turbine extracts energy from the gases to power the compressor and other accessories. Finally, the remaining hot gases are expelled through the nozzle, producing the propulsive thrust.

Turbojet engines were among the earliest jet engines developed and were crucial in the advancement of aviation. While they are highly efficient at high speeds and altitudes, their relatively high fuel consumption at lower speeds and their significant noise levels have led to them being largely superseded by more advanced engine types like turbofans for most modern aviation applications. However, the fundamental principles of the turbojet remain the basis for many other jet engine designs.
