Tuottajavastuuyhteisöihin, or producer responsibility communities in English, are organizations established to manage and implement the producer responsibility schemes for specific product categories in Finland. These communities are formed by producers who are legally obligated to take responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products. The primary goal is to ensure that products are collected, recycled, and disposed of in an environmentally sound manner, shifting the burden from municipalities and consumers to producers.

Each tuottajavastuuyhteisö is typically responsible for a particular type of waste, such as packaging, electronics, batteries, or vehicles. They operate under the supervision of the relevant environmental authorities and must comply with Finnish and EU legislation. These communities organize the collection and treatment of waste, often through agreements with waste management companies. They also fund these operations through fees paid by their member producers, which are usually calculated based on the amount of product placed on the market.

The establishment of tuottajavastuuyhteisöjä aims to promote a circular economy by encouraging producers to design products that are more durable, repairable, and recyclable. By directly managing the waste generated by their products, producers gain an incentive to minimize waste and improve the environmental performance of their offerings.
