Trykkoverføringen, often translated as pressure transmission, refers to the process by which pressure applied to a fluid is transmitted throughout that fluid. In a confined, incompressible fluid, pressure applied at one point is transmitted undiminished to all other points and to the walls of the container. This fundamental principle is described by Pascal's Law.

The practical applications of trykkoverføringen are widespread and form the basis of many hydraulic systems. Hydraulic jacks, for instance, utilize a small force applied to a small piston to generate a much larger force on a larger piston, effectively multiplying the applied force due to the transmission of pressure. Similarly, hydraulic brakes in vehicles work by transmitting the pressure exerted on the brake pedal through a fluid to the brake calipers, which then apply force to the brake pads and rotors to slow the vehicle.

Other examples include hydraulic lifts, which are used to raise heavy loads in workshops and construction sites, and hydraulic excavators, where the movement of the machine's arms and buckets is powered by hydraulic fluid transmitting pressure from the operator's controls to the actuators. The effectiveness of trykkoverføringen relies on the fluid's ability to remain largely incompressible and its containment within a closed system.
