Trombotsütopeeniline refers to a condition characterized by a low platelet count in the blood, known as thrombocytopenia. Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are small blood cells that play a crucial role in hemostasis, the process of stopping bleeding by forming blood clots. When platelet levels are abnormally low, the body's ability to clot effectively is compromised, leading to an increased risk of bleeding.

Thrombocytopenia can arise from various causes. These include decreased platelet production by the bone marrow, often due to conditions like aplastic anemia, certain viral infections, or chemotherapy. Increased destruction of platelets is another common cause, seen in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), where the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets.
