Triszínelmélethez, often translated as "three-color theory," is a concept primarily encountered in the study of color perception and its application in art and design. It posits that the human eye can perceive all colors by combining varying intensities of three primary colors. Historically, these primary colors have been understood in different ways depending on the context. In additive color mixing, as seen with light emitted from screens, the primary colors are red, green, and blue (RGB). When these lights are combined in different proportions, they can produce a wide spectrum of visible colors, including white when all three are at their maximum intensity.

In subtractive color mixing, used in printing and pigment-based art, the primary colors are typically cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY). In this system, colors are created by subtracting light. For instance, yellow pigment absorbs blue light, reflecting red and green. Combining cyan, magenta, and yellow in equal proportions theoretically results in black, although in practice, a darker pigment like black (K) is often added to achieve deeper blacks (CMYK). The underlying principle of triszínelmélethez is that our visual system, specifically the cone cells in our retinas, is sensitive to these three fundamental color ranges, allowing us to interpret the vast array of colors we experience.
